One to One with Eric Dupaix, The Lowell's Director of Operations

Eric Dupaix Jun 2025

Eric Dupaix has been an integral part of The Lowell for over a decade, playing a vital role in making the hotel the exceptional place it is today. As Director of Hotel Operations, Eric shares the inspiring story of his journey with us in this interview.

What first drew you to the hospitality industry, and can you share an early memory of a hotel experience that left a lasting impression on you?

From early on, I was drawn to the world of luxury hospitality and iconic hotels. The dynamic environment, the intricate operations, and the constant interaction with both guests and team members deeply fascinated me. I had the privilege of working alongside celebrity chefs and within Michelin-rated establishments, where I quickly came to appreciate the remarkable choreography behind every service — a seamless collaboration of talented individuals working together to create unforgettable guest experiences. I knew I wanted to be part of that magic

I studied at the Catering School in Strasbourg and earned my Master’s degree from Schuman University EM. After that, I moved to Paris, then to Saint Barth, before making my way to New York City. There, I had the incredible opportunity to work with some of the most iconic names in hospitality — including the Waldorf Astoria, The Carlyle, and Gordon Ramsay — before eventually joining The Lowell.

What makes The Lowell a special place to work at and represent?

The Lowell is a member of Leading Hotels of the World and encompasses true luxury hospitality with a sense of flair and design that is unparalleled. We are in a landmark district on Madison Avenue, a block away from Central Park and a home away from home for many travelers. The experience with suites overlooking the Upper East Side skyline and Central Park, live fireplaces, and beautiful design makes it a top destination.
The staff quality exemplifies in many ways the brand and the true value of hospitality and service. Going above and beyond to exceed guest expectations is what we do.

What do you love the most about your job?

Perfect execution with a team of great leaders and professionals. Removing all the roadblocks so our team members can do what they do best with a high level of competencies and enjoy delivering experiences to our guests!

How would you describe a day at The Lowell?

Fascinating and diverse! Meeting guests and arranging their stay to ensure our patrons are recognized and feel at home! Many of our guests stay for major life events — anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, and special celebrations. Planning for all details with great accuracy and impressing our guests is what makes a difference. Working with an experienced and dedicated staff is a key asset, and all staff members are a part of the magical dynamic.

Your favourite spots in New York City?

I enjoy the Four Freedoms Park located on Roosevelt Island — a riverwalk park dedicated to FDR, offering amazing East Side views. The park is inspired by FDR's vision of a world founded on four essential human freedoms: freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.
I also love exploring the luxury boutiques along Fifth Avenue and Madison, surrounded by the buzz and energy that make New York so unique.
An early walk in Central Park is a favorite of mine — a chance to take in the beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings.
I also enjoy visiting local restaurants and cafés to discover new spots to recommend to our guests.

You must have had many memorable experiences at the hotel. Is there any particular guest or experience that has stood out over the years?

The most magical time of the year is the holiday season, with festive decorations filling the lobby and lining Madison and Fifth Avenue — it’s a truly joyful and unique moment. We light our lobby fireplaces and Nest candles scented with holiday pine, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. One of the highlights is preparing special amenities for children, such as setting up in-room teepees filled with colorful gifts, and offering our Holiday Tea, featuring candied pineapple and ginger.

Another meaningful aspect of our work is the opportunity to train many junior talents who are beginning their careers in hospitality. Through our Hotel Operations Management Training Program, we help them develop and grow — a rewarding way to contribute to the future of our industry.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your time at The Lowell?

With the talented Front Desk team, we build true and long-lasting connections with our guests. Knowing guests’ or residents’ preferences and delivering a sense of reliability and comfort when they stay with us. Working with great leaders who have a quality vision and a great sense of delivering something exceptional — from the design team to the culinary team. Everyone is driven to make it very special for our guests.

How do you collaborate with the culinary team — particularly Majorelle and the bar — to ensure the F&B experience complements the hotel’s ethos?

We aim to do the very best with everything we do, from dish creativity and presentation to cocktail making. Our guests can enjoy the Majorelle Menu in the comfort of their suite with our Majorelle at Home Menu — and it’s a hit! We pair this experience with a selection of great wines from our cellar. When a guest likes Pinot Noir, we make a special selection and send our tasting notes for their enjoyment.
We offer an English Afternoon Tea in partnership with Maison Dior — it is a must-do experience when in NYC.
Jacques Bar has a great New York UES ambiance and a captivating cocktail and wine program. Above all, we are very fortunate to have a team of professionals dedicated and committed to the hotel and their guests and who enjoy doing what they do best.
