Neighborhood Feature: Victoire de Castellane Exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery
Nestled in 980 Madison Avenue, the Upper East Side Gagosian Gallery is but one of twelve galleries world wide opened by Larry Gagosian and just one of the three in New York City. Precious Objects, one of the Gagosian’s newest exhibits, opened March 11 and features the gilded and bejeweled creations of Victoire de Castellane.
Toting a definitive design pedigree from the houses of Chanel and Dior, French jewelry designer Victoire de Castellane is credited with redefining and reviving haute joaillerie for a new generation since being appointed the Creative Director of Dior Joaillerie by Bernard Arnault in 1998. This exhibition follows her acclaimed “Fleurs d’excès” at Gagosian Paris in 2011 and is Castellane’s first exhibition in New York.
“My jewels are propositions. From the outset, this involves making an object that constructs itself out of many different things, and that sometimes ends up surpassing even what I had imagined for it. It is no longer primarily an accessory; it becomes something larger. It speaks about concept and form as opposed to objective value. It becomes sculpture.” — Victoire de Castellane
BONUS: All works are for sale and may be tried on, just ask the front desk for assistance!
Precious Objects is scheduled to run until April 5: it’s the perfect chance to enjoy our Winter Special before March 31st and enjoy a weekend getaway (or staycation!) including a confirmed one level upgrade at the time of booking.
